LIBERAL COGNITIVE DISSONANCE DISORDER (LCDD)

Today, I’m going to address a particular form of LCDD that has always baffled me and continues to baffle me to this day. The devoted, liberal, Democrat’s refusal to hold their political party and politicians’ feet to the fire when it has become completely obvious that they are being shamelessly lied to and taken advantage of by their party.

I’m prompted to write this after a call we had on yesterday’s Drive Time Happy Hour. After identifying himself as “a Republican”, (which any frequent listener to talk radio knows is codeword for rabid leftist) the caller repeatedly asserted that the Democrats and the major unions were not negotiating deals that were exclusively favorable to union members. The caller made these assertions despite the fact that such deal making was widely reported. He seemed incapable of accepting the fact that Obama and the Democrats were perfectly willing to show extreme favoritism to unions, and they are also willing to do so in a brazenly open fashion.

We see this particular and peculiar form of LCDD throughout recent history. When former President Clinton went on live television and lied through his teeth about the nature of his relationship with a twenty-one year old intern and then repeated similar lies to a grand jury, Democrat voters defended and supported him in vast numbers. Convoluted excuse after convoluted excuse filled the editorial pages. It was “just sex, it was his private life, it wasn’t sex, etc., etc.” After Clinton’s notorious attempt to redefine the word is, and after he was disbarred, Democrat voters continued to obfuscate the truth, instead of accepting the simple fact that Clinton was a blatant liar.

When prominent Congressional Democrats, many of whom voted in favor of the 2003 invasion of Iraq, began to accuse the Bush administration of lying about or falsifying intelligence, party loyalists picked up that line and ran with it in to the point of shameless self-deprecation. The Drive Time Happy Hour and shows like it, continuously fielded calls from liberals asserting that “Bush lied, people died”.

When the hosts responded with quote after quote after quote made by Democrats such as Kennedy, Kerry, Clinton, Schumer and Reid, quotes referencing Saddam Hussein and weapons of mass destruction, the callers responded as if they were deaf. When the hosts pointed out the Iraqi Regime Change Act of 1998, signed by Clinton and heavily promoted by several Democrats, these liberal callers ignored such facts and continued the “Bush lied” meme. Facts didn’t matter to the left if those facts discredited their precious Democrats.

When absurdly, racist comments made by Senate Majority leader Harry Reid become public knowledge, Democrats who would indignantly impugn such comments from a conservative, turn their brains over to pretzel logic to defend Senator Reid. Not only do they defend the indefensible from their own party leaders, they also tell blatant lies about conservatives in order to sway public opinion against their political and ideological enemies.

Yesterday on his program, Rush Limbaugh clearly stated that if anyone wanted to donate to a relief fund for the Haiti earthquake victims, they should donate directly to The Red Cross or similar organizations and avoid donating to any fund established by the Federal Government. He explained that he thought the donors would do more good with their charitable dollars by following this advice. Within hours, none other than White House spokesman Robert Gibbs was propagating the lie that Rush had encouraged his listeners not to donate to any Haitian relief efforts.

Any person in their right mind would know that a figure as prominent as Rush would never make such statements, but Gibbs and others who construct such lies are clearly not in their right minds. Their minds are poisoned by a hyper partisan desire for power based on pure ideological statism. To this end they are willing to tell any lie for any purpose, including the personal destruction of their political foes. Until Democrat party loyalists begin to insist that their leaders and political figures speak and behave in a more honest and truthful fashion it will continue. When you allow the President of The United States to question the meaning of the word is, you’ve essentially pledged unwavering loyalty to the detriment of your own morality and the leaders of your party recognize the blind loyalty and truly believe they can get away with any lie, no matter how heinous and still win your vote. It’s up to Democrat voters to change their party leader’s behavior.
