LIBERAL COGNITIVE DISSONANCE DISORDER By Cliff Knizley

In this edition of LCDD, I’m breaking from tradition and instead of writing about liberals, I’m speaking directly to them. When I refer to liberals, I’m drawing a distinction between them and democrats. A distinction that includes not just democratic, elected officials, but also, party operatives, the party’s “business partners”, clients, such as public and private sector unions, handpicked, favored, corporate interests and their lobbyists, and any persons or entities that are in collusion with democrats to siphon cash out of government coffers. This includes, “researchers” deriving sustenance from government grants or other “non-profit” interests such as ACORN, and various “environmental” groups.

If you vote for democrats, but aren’t included in the aforementioned groups, you’re very likely a liberal. One who believes that man is capable of both destroying and saving the planet. One who believes that through dialogue, nations with opposite and competing interests, can somehow peacefully coexist. One who believes that through benevolent (I.E government) intervention, that “greed” can be subdued and the economic outcomes of individuals made more “fair“. One who believes that “right-wingers” are on an inexorable march towards establishing a Christian theocracy, if given the reins of power. These are the big ticket items that distinguish you in my mind as a liberal.

Throughout recent history, liberals have voted in virtual lockstep for democrats. Democrats casually court you with claims that your causes are theirs and that if there were such things as good and evil, their republican opponents would be the veritable spawns of Satan. They’ve convinced you that conservatives covet environmental destruction, wars for the sole purpose of feeding the nefarious Military Industrial Complex and indentured servitude of the masses to corporate masters. They’ve convinced you that not only is this destructive agenda the lifeblood of conservative governance, but also that this agenda is undertaken in the name of Jesus. Conservatives and liberals can all agree, that the democrats have portrayed themselves as THE party for all things liberal, but as it is in most cases, nothing could be further from the truth.

Democrats love to portray republicans as the “party of and for Wall Street and big corporate interests”. There’s no denying, that republicans in general are pro- business, but when it comes to Wall Street, the democrats protest too much. In 2008, Barack Obama scored nearly $15 million from Wall Street compared to John McCain’s $8.7 million. In 2009, the Democratic National Committee took in $11.7 million in large Wall Street donations, compared to $2.1 million for the Republican National Committee. The top two individual recipients for Wall Street largesse were none other than democrats Chuck Schumer and Harry Reid.

Take a look at the minutiae inside the mountains of monstrous legislation passed by the monolithic democratic party in this congress, and you’ll see the bailouts, payouts, exemptions and exceptions flowing to the democrat’s corporate partners. The democrats are using legislation, regulation, taxation and intimidation to make life easier for their friends and tougher for their friend’s competitors. It’s textbook “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours cronyism”.

As far as being the party of peace is concerned, one need only look at the lead up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq to see clear evidence of the democrat’s duplicity, hypocrisy and malfeasance. Not only did they vote in large numbers in favor of military action, they also offered up some of the most jingoistic rhetoric on record in advocating for military action. Afterwards, when they saw a political opportunity to denounce the war, it’s intent, and all other things related to Iraq, the democrats pounced. They simultaneously fed the “Military Industrial Complex”, while denigrating the mission.

Never has their been an opportunity for democrats to prove their bona fides on a “cause” then with the Gulf oil spill. Yet, their leader, Barack Obama hasn’t just been a negligent, dithering incompetent on dealing with the spill, he and his administration have actively stood in the way of cleanup efforts. From refusing to waive The Jones Act, to allow foreign ships to lend much needed expertise and assistance, to wrapping up other proposed efforts in so much bureaucratic red tape, that those offering their assistance were left standing idle on the shoreline.

The refusal to waive the Jones Act is motivated by Obama’s strict allegiance to various union interests, and the insistence on standing in the way of other clean up efforts was a consequence of Obama’s desire to use the spill as a political bait and switch, to gather support for “cap and trade” legislation, one of the granddaddy’s of democratic corporate cronyism.

I could go on and on providing examples of the democrat’s very illiberal ends justify the means tactics and motivations, but my point has been made. My purpose with this piece is not to debate conservatism versus liberalism, but to point out to liberals that the party to whom they have pledged their allegiance to, is categorically, undeniably taking liberals for granted. They pay lip service to your concerns, but , they seldom address them in any meaningful way. The democrats real loyalties are part and parcel to their preferred constituents, largely to the unions and to their corporate benefactors.
