CliffHanger Clobbers Celebrity Cerebral

Cliff Note: Once upon a time I was very active in submitting letters and op-eds to The Gainesville Sun. Knowing how far left the editors were and that my targets were genuinely devoid of humor and easy to tweak, it was always entertaining. Ultimately, it became clear that the Sun’s editors were more than eager to edit my writing and also quite willing to misrepresent my ideas in the form of rebuttals. It also became clear that the editors seemed to have that special lefty way of waiving their own rules when it came to their preferred contributors. The Sun claims that no writer will be published more than once in a 30 day period, unless of course it’s a left wing academic celebrity such as William Hedges. We had a great deal of fun with Mr. Hedges two weeks ago and on the occasion of his second letter to The Sun in 30 days, we will once again play off of Hedges pathological leftism. Not only is it educational for those of us outside the liberal fish bowl, it’s also entertaining! Here then is the new object of my abuse:

William D. Hedges, Gainesville writes another letter to the Editor: “I fear Obama will fail: As an ardent Democrat, I am resigned to the fact that Obama will lose. Why? Few will admit it, but when Americans enter the voting booth and are all alone, not many are going to vote for a black over a white. And, yes, I am deeply saddened because his impending defeat, despite the tragedy and devastation of the last eight years will be very clear indication of how far we have yet to go before we reach the dream of which Dr. King spoke with such eloquence.”

With all his infinite wisdom, Hedges has gazed into the future and seen a devastating loss for Senator Obama this November, because of the deep seeded racism inherent in our society. If we could only see past skin color, we could be saved from ourselves. Alas, it is not meant to be.

What is it with the left and losing elections? Even in imaginary elections, they’re never able to accept defeat with grace or humility. They always claim to have been cheated. Either the election was “stolen” or the mindless, ignorant masses were brainwashed by “Rove’s Haliburton Financed Propaganda Machine” or the voting public is a bunch of rubes too racist to recognize that “The One” has arrived in the form of Obama. Hedges is truly convinced that the gene pool has not yet caught up to him. Innate and nuanced brilliance such as his is simply too small in numbers. Leftists are incapable of wrapping their minds around the fact that we’ve examined their views and found them to be seriously flawed.

We are fully engaged in the arena of ideas and we reject leftist dogma.

No one regardless of income should pay 35% of that income to the Federal Government. Unelected judges should not throw out the will of the people by judicial fiat. America is not on the verge of depression and can’t be improved by the income redistribution schemes of liberals. We reject moral relativism. Oppressive regimes such as Iran and Venezuela should not be offered a seat at the international table. Islamofacists don’t have legitimate grievances against the West and there’s no equivalence whatsoever in Russia invading a sovereign neighbor and our removing a thug dictator in Saddam.

We’re not brainwashed, ignorant or racist Mr. Hedges. We are competing with you in the arena of ideas with the expressed goal of defeating you and Obama, because we think that you are misguided to the point of being dangerous.

On Friday I said that it appeared to this moron that the crotchety old fighter pilot had gotten inside Obama’s decision loop: McCain and the OODA Loop. The Father of the OODA Loop and one of the greatest American warriors you will never hear about is: “John Boyd – Pope John, The High Priest of the Fighter Mafia, the Mad Major, the Ghetto Colonel – Forty Second Boyd not only wrote the revolutionary tactics manuals that gave American pilots the keys to air-to-air victory… and with it the essential and undisputed control of the battlespace. Nor was his achievement limited to the design of the phenomenally successful F-15 and F-16 fighters. Nor was it merely the codifying of physics and thermodynamics to make a science out of an art form. That John Boyd saw all of these things for the first time would have made him a legend. But this was quite the lesser of his two great achievements. For Boyd not only saw how to perfect the sword. He saw too how to perfect the swordsman.”

John Lewis Gaddis: But I can say this on the basis of direct observation: President Bush is interested—as no other occupant of the White House has been for quite a long time—in how the past can provide guidance for the future.

Steve Diamond: Perhaps realizing that there is no hope on the Ayers issue, the Obama campaign began its strategic retreat today.

TigerHawk quotes Mike Huckabee: “(Sarah Palin) got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president.” Ouch!

Cliff Note: My friend Mark Minor, whose writings inspired Letters From Baghdad, just defeated incumbent St John’s County Commissioner Ben Rich in the Republican primary!

Newsbusters Noel Sheppard: New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd even went so far as to quote someone in her most recent article who depicted the “weird and jittery” vibe inside the Pepsi Center as “Submerged hate.”

Economy-The Pie Got Bigger: Average U.S. income fell when George Bush took office in 2001. Naturally, Democrats and the media unfairly blamed him for it. But now Americans are better off than when Bill Clinton was president.

There’s more good news: Despite an economy starting to wobble, incomes were up and more people had health insurance last year, the Census Bureau reported Tuesday. Income inequality even shrank a bit.

Ed Morrissey: … combined with the so-called “sign of progress”, Barack Obama may be better suited to run for the presidency of the United Federation of Planets than the USA.  Allahpundit reported last night on the plans for Obama to deliver his acceptance speech in front of a fake Greek temple, and John McCormack has the picture.

“A Caring Floridian” writes: Dear Gentleman, I found the following email link to contact Mayor Ray Nagin.  I thought it would be a good idea for as many people as possible to contact Mr. Nagin and advise him to be prepared because Hurricane Gustav could be headed in his direction.  We could actually help New Orleans not to suffer as tragically as they did in 2005 in the aftermath of Katrina.  We could effectively warn them that the storm is coming.  It is a possibility however, that they may be aware of the impending storm because some of the residents acquired new flat screen televisions.  But we do not know if they also acquired cable or satellite service as well.  We should all do our part before the storm.  We could lend a hand, and help the poor and indigent citizens of New Orleans, by getting the word out now while there is time to board up the rental centers and Wal-Marts, load the busses and prepare the levies.

The Weather Nerd: Get used to that phrase — “Hurricane Gustav.” You’ll be hearing a lot of it over the next week or so. Indeed, the GFDL shows Gustav as a monster Category 5 hurricane peaking at 180 mph winds on Saturday as it enters the Gulf of Mexico and ominously stalks the central Gulf Coast.

Micheal Totten writes from Tbilisi: The truth about Russia and Georgia.

Jake Tapper, ABC News: As frustrated Democrats converged on Denver yesterday, some began chanting “caucus fraud,” while others shouted the word “sweetie,” a reference to the time Obama called a female reporter by the same name. One Clinton supporter who spoke to ABC News said Obama couldn’t be trusted. Another said, “He’s shifty and untrustworthy.”

Dan Riehl: A Rezko accomplice awaiting sentencing for extortion with deep connections to Biden and really soooo much more than that. He was also Biden’s Midwest field director in his 1988 bid.

Michael Rubin, Washington Post: Biden’s Blink on Iran… Obama picked Biden for experience, but he might also have considered judgment. When it comes to Iran, Biden could stare down dictators; too bad he blinks.
